Veins of Gold

About this piece

Light passing through a palm frond reveals fine parallel veins and scattered, gold-edged blemishes. The dark diagonal stem anchors a repeating arrangement of narrow leaflets, their luminous greens set against a softly blurred background.

The story

I found myself looking past the outline of the palm and into the leaf itself. Against the light, each narrow blade held a different shade of green, interrupted by small brown marks rimmed with gold. I framed the central stem on a diagonal and let the leaflets extend beyond the edges. What held my attention was the contrast: such orderly growth, carrying so many irregular traces across its surface.
