About this piece

Seen from below, palm trunks rise inward from the edges, their green and gold fronds surrounding an open expanse of blue. Scattered clouds soften the sky, while a small sunburst on the right sharpens the contrast between light and foliage.

The story

I looked up and let the ground disappear from the frame. Above me, the palms made an uneven circle, each crown reaching into the blue without quite closing it. I kept that open space at the heart of the photograph, with the clouds threading through it and the sun caught between fronds on the right. For a moment, the place became nothing more than leaves, light, and room to breathe.
