About this piece

A warm-toned wooden boardwalk leads into dense foliage, its converging edges drawing the eye toward a bend beneath the trees. Radiating palm fronds and fine fern leaves surround the open path, contrasting the measured lines of the planks with the layered growth of the forest.

The story

I stopped before the bend, where the boardwalk seemed to narrow into the green. The palms spread across my view in sharp fans, while ferns filled the spaces close to the ground. I wanted to keep that small stretch of empty path at the center of the photograph: somewhere for the eye to walk before the leaves closed around it. Beyond the turn, the forest offered no clear view, only a reason to continue.
