Green Armature

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a dense arrangement of tropical growth, where pale green stalks intersect tiers of pointed bracts. Sunlight illuminates the torn foreground leaf and sharp botanical edges, while dry brown fibers introduce a contrasting texture within the saturated greens.

The story

I found myself looking into the plant rather than past it. The long stalks divided the view into narrow openings, each revealing another pointed form or strand of dried fiber. What held me there was the contrast between the firm, almost architectural growth and the fraying edges of the broad leaf below. I framed them together, letting the light reveal a structure that felt both vigorous and visibly weathered.
