Folds of Flame

About this piece

Vivid pink heliconia bracts form a descending rhythm of pointed folds against deep green foliage. Fine surface markings and darkened interiors interrupt the saturated color, revealing the textured complexity of these sculptural botanical forms.

The story

I was drawn first to the pink, then to the shadows held inside each fold. Moving closer, I let the surrounding foliage become a field of green, keeping the broad leaf and its fine lines beside the flower. What interested me was the contrast between brilliance and wear: luminous surfaces, thin yellow edges, and the dark material gathered within. In this small space, color and texture were enough to hold my attention.
