Beneath the Luminous Horizon

About this piece

Seen from the shoreline, the underside of a weathered pier forms a broad canopy, its beams and supports converging toward the sea. Saturated blue water contrasts with yellow and orange light along the right-hand horizon, while softened surf and reflective sand lend stillness to the structure’s insistent geometry.

The story

On this November day, the shore holds two kinds of light: blue beneath the clouds and a narrow warmth beside the pier. Water gathers around the stained supports, softening their edges without concealing their weight. Across the wet sand, orange reflections interrupt the cool shade. The eye follows the repeated pillars outward, until the heavy structure seems to narrow into a passage of light.
