About this piece

Green and gold bamboo stems fill the frame, their segmented surfaces alternating with deep bands of shadow. Carved names, initials, and symbols interrupt the repeated vertical forms, bringing traces of human presence into this dense botanical study.

The story

I framed the bamboo closely, letting the stems carry my eye from one edge to the other. At first, I saw only green and gold, the pale joints and the darkness held between them. Then the scratched letters began to emerge: small declarations left on living surfaces. I stayed with that contrast, the steady repetition of growth and the irregular marks of passing visitors, each asking the place to remember them.
