The story

I followed the aircraft through the viewfinder as its turn revealed the canopy, the painted stars, and the bright sweep of its wings. Against so much blue, every marking seemed unusually clear. I wanted to hold that brief alignment: the nose reaching toward the corner, the tail falling away, the vapor drawing loose lines behind it. For a fraction of a second, speed became something I could study rather than chase.
