About this piece

Two Thunderbirds jets form a near-mirrored pair against a clear blue sky, with the lower aircraft flying inverted. Their vivid markings and closely aligned profiles contrast with the scattered boats and broad expanse of sea below.

The story

I followed the two aircraft through the viewfinder as their silhouettes settled into this extraordinary alignment. One upright, one inverted, they seemed to give the sky a second horizon. Below them, boats scattered across the water offered another measure of distance and scale. I wanted to hold both worlds in the frame: the precise geometry of the passing jets and the loose arrangement of people spending a day at sea.
