A Fold of Gold

A yellow flower hangs beneath an arching stem, its folded petals illuminated against layers of green foliage. Fine hairs along the buds and sepals catch the light, while shallow depth of field softens the surrounding leaves into broad patches of color.

The story

I was drawn to the yellow before I noticed the fine hairs tracing the stem and buds. Beneath that small procession of pointed forms, the flower hung low, its petals gathered into a loose fold. I framed it against the softer greens so that the light could reveal its creases and speckles. What held my attention was the contrast: a bright, delicate surface suspended from something bristling and sturdy.
