About this piece

Mike Gedj frames bamboo as a dense arrangement of vertical stems, interrupted by the diagonal sweep of slender leaves. Strong light reveals fine surface lines, pale markings, and weathered brown patches, setting luminous greens against deep pockets of shade.

The story

I found myself looking into the spaces between the bamboo rather than toward its canopy. Light caught one rounded stem, then another, leaving the gaps almost black. A few leaves crossed the upright stalks, their shadows tracing sharper lines than their edges. I kept the frame close, drawn to the contrast between smooth green surfaces and rough brown ones. For this moment, the grove became a study of small differences.
