Mike Gedj frames a sheltered coastal scene through scattered boats, slender mooring posts, and their reflections. Pale pink water meets a broad blue and lavender sky, while distant landforms and a palm-lined shore give scale to the expansive composition.

The story

I let the boats lead my eye across the water, from the white hulls near the edge to the blue one resting at the center. Each mooring post drew a thin line through the reflected color. Beyond them, the islands seemed almost weightless against the sky. I wanted to leave room for that distance, and for the quiet intervals between boats, where the water held little more than light.
