An Edge Of Blue

About this piece

A gray fighter jet stretches across a clear blue sky, its underside, swept wings, and twin tail fins exposed to view. Sunlight traces the upper surfaces while deep blue shadow describes the paneling beneath; the open space around the aircraft lends its forceful geometry an unexpected stillness.

The story

On January 2, the new year opens onto an uninterrupted field of blue. The aircraft points rightward, sunlight catching its nose and the rim of its canopy. Beneath the wings, seams and panels form a darker map of the machine. A pale flicker of exhaust trails behind, the briefest trace of passage through otherwise empty air.
