About this piece

Mike Gedj captures a Blue Angels jet in side profile, its deep blue fuselage and yellow markings sharply defined against the pale sky. A thin smoke trail extends beyond the frame, giving the aircraft’s clean horizontal silhouette a visible trace of motion.

The story

I followed the blue silhouette through the viewfinder, watching the yellow markings stand out against the softer color of the sky. For a moment, the aircraft filled the frame like a single drawn line, with only the thinning smoke behind it to suggest what had already passed. I wanted to hold that contrast: the force implied by the machine and the spare, almost quiet geometry it made in the air.
