About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a layered, reddish-brown plant structure within an enclosure of luminous green leaves. Selective focus distinguishes its curled edges and delicate webbing from the softened foreground, while branching leaf veins give the composition its sweeping lines.

The story

I looked between the broad leaves and found a small gathering of rust and burgundy, almost hidden by green. Moving closer, I let the nearest leaf soften until its veins became pale paths across the frame. The curled layers held my attention, but so did the fine threads stretched between them. I wanted to keep that sense of looking into a sheltered space, where even the smallest details had room to remain undisturbed.
