The story

I paused before the gateway, drawn to the way its warm wood gathered the surrounding green into a single frame. Beyond the stone threshold, the pale path led between grasses toward a small glimpse of water. I kept the opening at the center, letting the bamboo fill the edges. What held me there was the invitation of an empty passage: nothing blocking the view, yet enough hidden beyond it to make me linger.
