Where Water Yields

About this piece

A ridged spiral shell rests in the lower right of the frame, its amber surface luminous against dark, finely textured sand. Softly blurred water sweeps diagonally toward it, setting fluid lavender tones against the shell’s sharply defined contours. Warm reflections lend this close view of the shoreline a quiet, concentrated radiance.

The story

September light gathers in the shell’s ridges and spreads a copper sheen across the wet sand. A thin wash of water approaches, dividing around the raised form. For a moment, pale foam traces its base like a shoreline in miniature. The water moves on, leaving the shell amid the sand’s small grooves and scattered grains.
