About this piece
A fishing pier stretches diagonally from the sandy foreground toward the horizon, its railings and lamps forming a diminishing rhythm above the water. Orange light catches the pavilion’s exposed beams beneath a mounted billfish, while violet clouds and a deep blue upper sky balance the luminous horizon. Small breaking waves soften the geometry of the structure.
The story
On this October day, the horizon holds a band of gold beneath the scattered clouds. Water folds onto the sand, leaving thin reflections between the darker ripples. Beneath the pavilion roof, picnic tables sit in shadow while the beams gather an amber glow. The pier’s lamps draw a fine line out to sea, each one smaller than the last. For a moment, the distance seems measured in points of light.
