About this piece

Seen from below, sculpted sandstone walls curve around an irregular opening of blue sky. Sunlight illuminates the upper ridges in gold and orange, while violet shadows reveal fine striations across the nearer rock. Sweeping contours draw the eye upward, lending the enclosed space a sense of movement and quiet grandeur.

The story

An early September sky rests between the folded walls, clear and intensely blue. Light reaches the high edges and turns their thin layers amber, leaving the lower curves in violet shade. The stone seems to gather around the opening, its ripples held in place like a wave before it breaks. Below this small reach of sky, the world narrows to texture, color, and stillness.
