About this piece

A low sun forms a starburst among banana leaves, casting long shadows across a lawn overlooking the ocean. Palms and a slender conifer rise against peach and lavender clouds, while a dark timber house with a red roof anchors the right edge of the composition.

The story

I framed the sun where it slipped between the banana leaves, a small bright center beneath the spreading sky. The ocean lay beyond the garden, partly hidden by trunks and foliage, while the wooden house held the shade along one side. What drew me in was the meeting of those scales: the wide reach of clouds and water, and the familiar intimacy of a lawn, a roof, a tree.
