Seen from beneath a bridge, weathered concrete piers form a sequence of rectangular frames converging at a central vanishing point. Saturated turquoise water and green tones beneath the deck contrast with the darkened supports, while a neighboring span extends across the open right side.
The story
I framed the view beneath the bridge, letting its repeated supports draw my eye toward the smallest opening in the distance. On either side, the water held a brightness that seemed almost separate from the heavy concrete above it. Small boats occupied the space beside the neighboring span, giving scale to the crossing. What held me was the contrast: this enormous structure, and the luminous water moving freely through its measured intervals.
