Constellations in Green

About this piece

Mike Gedj frames a palm frond in close detail, revealing fine parallel veins and brown markings edged in luminous yellow. The leaflets form intersecting diagonals against a soft blue background, balancing botanical texture with bold fields of color.

The story

I was drawn to the marks before I noticed the shape of the frond. Each brown spot had a yellow edge, bright enough in the light to interrupt the long green veins. I framed the leaves closely, letting the dark stem divide the image and the blue beyond fill the gaps. What held me there was not a flawless leaf, but the way its irregular surface caught and carried the light.
