About this piece

A white lighthouse rises through overlapping palm fronds, its dark lantern room outlined against a vivid blue sky. The central walkway and slender trunks draw the eye upward, while sharply defined leaf shadows pattern the warm-toned paving.

The story

I framed the lighthouse from beneath the palms, letting their fronds cross its white walls rather than seeking an unobstructed view. The path gave my eye a way through the dense green, ending at a small dark door. Above it, the lantern stood clear of the leaves. What held me was that contrast: a tower built to be seen from far away, encountered here through the close shelter of trees.
