The story

I looked across the hillside as evening gathered between the houses. From this distance, the stairways seemed to stitch the village together, passing pink shutters, blue gates, and terraces where people lingered above the sea. What held my attention was the balance: so much built into the slope, yet so much openness beyond it. I framed the windmills against the last pale light, letting the dark clouds give weight to all that white.
