The story

June light fills the clouds with gold while the water below holds a cooler blue. Along the pier, lamps grow smaller until they seem scarcely taller than the horizon. Beneath its weathered supports, reflections soften into broad bands of color. A few strands of seaweed rest on the sand, where a patch of reflected light brings the distant sky close to shore.
