About this piece

An orange starfish lies on wet sand, its five arms spreading beneath a low ribbon of surf. Soft light reveals the beadlike white texture of its surface, while shallow focus dissolves the water behind it. Positioned to the right of the frame, the starfish brings warm color and sculptural detail to the muted shore.

The story

On this October day, the shore holds a small concentration of orange against the gray-brown sand. Foam gathers along the starfish's farther arms, its bubbles echoing the pale beads across the textured surface. Water lends the sand a dark sheen, making each visible grain seem distinct. For a moment, the sea's restless edge becomes an intimate study in stillness.
