Where White Meets Blue

About this piece

Whitewashed buildings, ochre facades, and a blue dome cluster along a steep coastal slope above intensely blue water. Strong sunlight defines the rounded roofs and layered terraces, while the diagonal shoreline leads toward dark, striated cliffs. The dense architecture gives way to expanses of sea and sky, balancing intricate detail with openness.

The story

Late July light rests brightly on the white roofs, leaving pockets of shade beneath umbrellas and terrace walls. Stairways thread between buildings, disappearing behind curves of plaster and returning farther down the slope. Beyond the last terraces, dry golden ground falls toward the water. A small sailboat sits beneath the cliffs, its slender mast nearly lost against the blue. Across the bay, bands of dark rock hold the eye while a few clouds gather overhead.
