Terraces Above Blue

About this piece

Whitewashed terraces descend toward a deep blue bay, where two cruise ships and a multi-masted sailing vessel sit beneath dark, rocky slopes. Strong sunlight defines curved walls, golden paving, and folded parasols, while vivid bougainvillea threads through the foreground. The elevated composition balances the intricate geometry of leisure spaces against the broad stillness of the water.

The story

July light gathers on the white walls and leaves sharp shadows beneath the empty chairs. Bougainvillea spills across railings, its magenta flowers bright against the blue beyond. Small turquoise pools hold pockets of colour among the descending terraces. Out in the bay, the ships seem almost miniature, their white decks separated by generous stretches of water. The eye moves past the folded parasols and settles where the last terrace gives way to open blue.
