A weathered open boat rests between two closely cropped neighbors, its interior crowded with rope, floats, and worn equipment. Daylight brings out turquoise paint, orange accents, and the rough grain of the stern, while dark water gathers their reflections. The central hull cuts diagonally across the frame, lending structure to this quiet study of use and wear.
The story
Late June light settles over the boats and catches along their battered rims. In the middle hull, rope coils around floats beneath a pale rectangular lid, each object resting against the next. Turquoise paint holds in patches beside exposed wood and stained surfaces. Between the boats, narrow strips of water loosen the dock’s straight lines into wavering reflections. For now, everything the boat carries stays close and still.
