Small Fires Above Turquoise

About this piece

Slender grasses lift red-gold seed heads above dense green foliage beside a rocky shore. Strong sunlight illuminates their fine bristles, while shallow focus softens the rocks and turquoise water into broad fields of color. The open upper frame gives these small botanical forms an expansive, luminous setting.

The story

On this November day, the shoreline holds a brightness that seems to set the calendar aside. Green stems rise between leaves and stone, each carrying a small fan of copper, crimson, or pale gold. Beyond them, the water becomes an unbroken field of turquoise. The eye follows one fine stalk upward, leaving the crowded foliage for a little room and light.
