The story

Late November arrives here in bright greens and expanses of blue. Along the cove, a thin line of foam touches the sand beneath the steep folds of the cliffs. Clear water reveals submerged stone before its color deepens beyond sight. Offshore, a pale island catches the light, its low green slope resting against the horizon. The eye moves outward from the broken rocks into open water and stays there.
