The story

Late August finds the water holding bands of gold between its darker ripples. The bridge narrows into the distance, its heavy piers becoming small marks against the bright horizon. Overhead, clouds carry deep violet shadows within their peach-lit edges. Palm leaves trace a fine fringe across the sky, and the eye follows the crossing until steel and light nearly meet.
