The Grain of Endurance

About this piece

A weathered tree spreads its bare branches across a rocky desert landscape, its deeply furrowed trunk extending along the ground. Strong sunlight articulates the grain of the wood and the rounded rock formations behind it, while fine clouds open a quieter register above. The black-and-white treatment brings branch, stone, and scrub into a shared language of texture.

The story

September light falls sharply across the exposed wood, finding each ridge and hollow. The trunk curves close to the earth, while its branches draw a delicate tangle against the sky. Behind them, rounded stone holds pockets of shadow beneath its worn edges. Thin clouds stretch overhead, their softness a counterpoint to the rough ground. Here, the passing day measures itself in light rather than movement.
