Successive brick arches narrow toward a distant vanishing point, their rounded openings framed by the massive vault in the foreground. Light washes the pale, uneven floor and reveals rust-red masonry, while deep shadows beneath the arches lend the passage a quiet, measured rhythm.

The story

At the beginning of January, light enters the passage and settles in pale intervals along the floor. Each arch holds another, smaller and farther away, until the brickwork gathers around a dark opening. Rough edges and mortar seams interrupt the precision of the repeating curves. The eye moves onward while the space remains still.
