About this piece

Rust-colored rails and weathered wooden sleepers sweep from the foreground into a leftward bend among dense shrubs and evergreen trees. Bright daylight articulates the gravel and wood grain, while the repeating sleepers draw the eye toward the concealed distance. A structure rises above the upper-right treeline, a small geometric counterpoint to the surrounding foliage.

The story

Late June brings bright color to the railway margins, where small white flowers gather beside the ballast. Light catches the rail tops and the pale, worn surfaces of the sleepers. Between the timbers, green shoots interrupt the measured spacing of wood and stone. The track turns into the trees, leaving its continuation out of sight.
