Where Stone Holds Roots

About this piece
A gnarled pine rises from exposed, layered rock, its irregular branches spreading across the right side of this black-and-white landscape. Strong sunlight defines the grain of bark and stone, while scattered shrubs and distant cliffs carry the eye toward a low horizon. Bright clouds balance the tree’s intricate silhouette, lending spaciousness to the rugged terrain.
The story
September light rests sharply on the stone, revealing seams, cracks, and shallow hollows. The pine holds its crooked shape above the rock, patches of needles interrupting the bare lines of its branches. Beyond it, the land opens into shelves and distant cliffs beneath scattered clouds. The eye follows a branch outward, then slips into the wide quiet of the sky.
