The story

December light spreads gold above a low bank of clouds, leaving the sand and tower in cool shadow. Small waves reach the beach in narrow, silver-blue lines. Beneath the closed shutters, the rescue board rests against the tower’s supports, its curved outline softening the geometry of stairs and braces. Footprints cross the foreground, but the steps remain empty.
