The story

Late August gathers in luminous cloud above Long Key. Beneath the Lime Tree Bay sign, empty hooks and a worn work surface hold the everyday language of fishing in the Florida Keys. Through the blue timber frame, a small kayak rests against the broad reach of water. The dock extends from the right, its posts punctuating the low horizon. For now, the station holds no catch—only a rectangle of sea and sky.
