Black-and-white desert landscape with layered cliffs, tall rock spires, and scattered shrubs beneath a pale sky.

The Stone Keeps Watch

MG-1894

September 2024

About this piece

A cluster of rock spires rises between broad, stratified cliffs above a desert floor dotted with shrubs. In black and white, pale light traces the exposed ground and vegetation against the darker rock faces. The wide composition balances the central formation with an open sky, lending the rugged terrain a measured stillness.

The story

September light rests on the low shrubs, picking out their fine branches against the stony ground. The eye travels across these small, rounded forms toward the sheer walls beyond. There, horizontal layers give way to narrow towers, their uneven summits held against the pale sky. For a moment, the distant stone seems less like a boundary than a place for the gaze to settle.
