The story

Late July gathers its light along the horizon, laying gold between the dark shoreline and the clouds. The pier offers a measured passage outward, each pair of posts smaller than the last. On either side, ripples loosen the sky into bands of amber and blue. Small boats sit in the distance, and the boards end where the open water begins.
