The story

Late November finds this shore bright with blue water and sunlit sand. A thin wash of foam advances along the beach, then slips back from the weathered wood. Green algae cling to the rocks where water meets land. Far out, small kites punctuate the sky; here, the driftwood holds its shape above a dark, still shadow.
