A narrow whitewashed stairway descends between curving walls toward blue-domed churches, a coral-colored bell tower, and an expansive sea. Strong sunlight reveals the rough plaster and worn stair treads, while the distant cliffs establish a horizontal counterpoint to the steep foreground. Saturated blues and luminous whites give the composition both intensity and stillness.
The story
Late July light rests on the white walls, revealing every ripple and worn edge of plaster. The stairway bends downward, its dark treads marking a measured passage between buildings. Beyond the parapet, blue domes gather the color of the water into rounded forms. Bells hang motionless in their coral-colored frame, and small boats punctuate the open sea. The close embrace of the passage gives way to distance.
