The story

Late July light settles against the white walls, exposing every worn edge and ripple of plaster. The steps narrow as they descend, their dark patches repeating toward the blue domes. Beside them, two bells hang motionless within pale pink arches. Beyond this close arrangement of walls and roofs, the sea opens wide, carrying small white vessels beneath the distant cliffs.
