Pink bracts open around clusters of yellow florets, while water droplets trace the edge of the central bud. A diagonal stem carries the eye toward developing fruit below, with shallow depth of field softening the surrounding foliage into luminous green.

The story

I came close enough for the surrounding leaves to lose their edges. What held my attention was the line of water along the folded bract, each drop catching a little of the brightness around it. The pink opened outward while the yellow florets crowded the center. I framed the stem diagonally, keeping the developing fruit at the edge of focus, so the photograph could hold both the blossom and a hint of what follows.
