A Quiet Unfurling

About this piece

Mike Gedj’s close-up isolates open white blossoms within a radiating cluster of pink floral tubes and pale buds. Selective focus reveals the curved petals and slender stamens, while surrounding flowers soften into a dense field of rose and green.

The story

I found myself looking past the bright pink cluster toward the few white flowers that had opened. Their petals curled back, exposing fine filaments and small traces of yellow. Through the lens, the surrounding buds became soft strokes of color, while each open bloom held its own clear shape. I framed them close, letting the leaves fill the spaces beneath, drawn to the contrast between so much waiting and these few small arrivals.
