The story

I followed the four aircraft through the viewfinder, watching the spaces between them as closely as the jets themselves. Against the blue, their yellow markings made each shape distinct, while the smoke began to loosen into soft ribbons behind them. I wanted to hold that contrast: the exactness of the formation and the restless air it left behind. For this single frame, speed became an arrangement of lines and intervals.
