An Ember Turns

About this piece
A tightly cropped flamingo portrait sets orange-red plumage, a golden eye, and a pale, black-tipped bill against a deep black background. Light articulates the fine neck feathers and layered plumage at the lower left, while the bowed head balances the broad expanse of darkness. The composition gives a familiar bird an intimate, sculptural presence.
The story
In this December frame, warmth resides in the plumage: coral, vermilion, and pale edges of light. The neck rises beyond the border, returning as a lowered head beside a single watchful eye. Fine feathers gather into close rows, while the larger plumes below open like a fan. The surrounding darkness offers no weather or horizon, only space for this quiet turn.
