A Light Above Palms

About this piece

A skeletal lighthouse rises above dense palms, its brilliant lantern framed by diamond-patterned glazing against an orange and mauve sky. The centered tower anchors the vertical composition, while rope-lined docks and dark foreground water establish a quiet waterfront setting. Saturated light contrasts with the shaded foliage and exposed framework, lending the scene a watchful stillness.

The story

August light fills the sky with amber, leaving the palm fronds dark along their edges. Below the tower, ropes dip between wooden posts above the narrow strip of water. The eye follows the crossed braces upward, past windows and railings, until it reaches the luminous glass. There, above the crowded foliage, the lantern holds its own small brightness against the sky.
