A Delicate Foothold

About this piece
A butterfly rests on a broad green leaf, its upright wings patterned with gold-ringed eyespots and fine brown and violet markings. Bright light reveals the leaf’s textured surface and the insect’s slender legs, while shallow focus dissolves the background into green, amber, and cream. The sweeping leaf and near-vertical wings give this intimate portrait a poised, sculptural balance.
The story
In this January frame, the world gathers around a small foothold on a leaf. Slender legs meet the green surface, and an antenna reaches into the luminous blur. Gold rings punctuate the folded wings, their dark centers echoing the butterfly’s glossy eyes. The opening days of the year find a quiet counterpoint here: a living presence, held in light.
