The story
On this February day, the low sun gathers gold between the palms. Kayaks lie together on the sand, their red and orange hulls answering the light along the horizon. The thatch hangs in rough fringes above closed shutters, while footprints give the empty beach a trace of movement. Beyond the waiting boats, the sea holds a narrow band of brightness beneath the wide, cloud-streaked sky.
